Who We are

Let’s be honest.
We don’t need another show.

( Unless it’s a reunion of The Office. )

Nope, we don’t need another show. We don’t need more divisive “us versus them” talk. Most of us are looking for a place to belong, to heal, to grow, and to live on purpose. Here’s the good news: following Jesus together gives us all those things. At Discovery, you will be equipped to follow Jesus in your real, ordinary, everyday life.

We're all about Discovery

Curiosity and discovery are essential for human growth. They help us explore new ideas, adapt to change, and deepen our understanding of ourselves and the world. The same is true for Jesus—our curiosity about Him invites us to discover His love, truth, and grace in deeper ways.

These three discoveries
represent the heart of our mission as a church. We seek to help others discover Jesus, Community & Mission.

Our Values

Here's what matters most to us as followers of Jesus.

GOSPEL

There still is good news - we call that GOSPEL.

And the good news is this — A good God is restoring all things. All the brokeness and pain in our world, God is working, even now, to bring restoration and hope to those places. And you are not the exception. No matter who you are or what you have done.

WORSHIP

In response to the Gospel, we reach out to God.We call that WORSHIP.

The goal is to make our entire lives a "thank you" to God for all he's done for us. He gets the glory, and we get more joy than we thought possible, regardless of our circumstances.

COMMUNITY

It's literally in our name, COMMUNITY. At Discovery we take community seriously.

We believe God has called us to be a diverse, loving, forgiving and growing community. We seek to create that kind of family connection every week, with every person that comes through our doors.

MISSION

Living intentionally for Jesus. We call that MISSION.

Mission is the calling of every Christian to actively participate in God’s larger redemptive plan for the world. It means living intentionally as representatives of Jesus, sharing His love, truth, and hope in both word and action. It’s not limited to a specific task or location but is woven into every aspect of life—at home, work, or inthe community.

Values Need Vision

Here’s four things we want to be known for...
People Saved

Discovery is passionate about making room for the skeptical, the curious, and those burnt out on playing church. There is no bait-and-switch here — we want to see our neighbors, co-workers, family members (and you) experience the saving love of God.

Disciples Made

Come as you are, and expect to be challenged, as we learn and grow alongside one another. God has plans for every part of your life — both your identity and your activity — so we trust him to change us from the inside out as we follow Him together.

Leaders Trained

We don’t want to be a place where you just consume content and experiences, but where you are developed into the leader God has called you to be. We want you to be equipped for the incredible things he is inviting you into

A City Served

We love God, each other, and Utah—especially Murray, Salt Lake City, and the entire valley. We seek to do good for all our neighbors, regardless of their beliefs or needs. We strive to be a community that consistently looks outward, serving wholeheartedly, as a church that meets the needs of those around us.

Got Questions?

What are the core beliefs of the church?

We are a gospel-centered community that celebrates the life, death, resurrection and teachings of Jesus. Take a look at our beliefs page for more detail.

Do you believe in the weird stuff I’ve heard about in churches?

It depends on what you’ve heard. 😉 Here’s the deal — all the important stuff is weird stuff, it just so happens to be completely true. We believe Jesus isn’t just an inspiring historical figure, but the Son of God who lived a perfect life and died in our place for our sins so we can be forgiven. We believe that he rose from the dead so we can rise to new life, too — and that one day he’s coming back to fix everything that is broken in the world and wipe every tear from every eye. We also believe the Holy Spirit can bring miraculous healing into your life, often in unexpected ways — that’s weird, and wonderful. Again, it’s all weird stuff — but it’s true, and it might just change your everything.

Are you a Bible church or a Holy Spirit church?

Yes. This is a great of example of how Discovery is a “both/and” community (as opposed to “either/or.”) We love blowing up false dichotomies. We study Scripture deeply and invite the Spirit to move among us. We trust the sovereignty of God and pray for miraculous healing. We equip each other to share our faith and seek justice in our city. You get the idea.

What kinds of people are a part of this church?

We are committed to being a family made up of different generations, backgrounds, ethnicities and abilities. Unity in the midst of diversity is a big part of God’s Kingdom, and one we celebrate. (Translation: there is a place for you and the people you care about here.)

Community

Since church is not a building, event, or institution, we believe that profound experiences happen in living rooms and coffee shops as often as they do in crowded auditoriums.
